Just swapped out my old firebrick for a ceramic blanket in the forge
The difference in heat-up time and fuel use is huge, I'm talking about 15 minutes faster to welding temp. That old brick was just soaking up all the heat. Anyone else make this switch and notice how much more control you get?

My old forge is still brick, so I'm clearly the heat-soaking control group here.

Yeah, brick holds heat like nothing else. I was reading an article last week about traditional forges, and it pointed out that thermal mass is a double-edged sword. You wait forever for it to get up to temp, but once it's there, it stays super stable for hours. Makes you wonder if all the new, fast-heating materials are worth the trade-off in consistency.
