I called solo board gaming "sad" for 3 years, then I logged 40 plays of Mage Knight
Back in 2021 I told my old game group that playing alone was just doing homework with extra steps. Then my group fell apart when two guys moved to Phoenix, and my shelf of unplayed games kept staring at me. I finally tried Mage Knight solo on a rainy Saturday and lost to the dummy player by 4 points, which annoyed me enough to set it up again the next night. That turned into 40 logged plays in about 7 months, and I now keep a notebook of solo runs like some kind of spreadsheet goblin. The part I did not expect is that nobody is around to blame when a plan falls apart, so I actually got better at the game. My group is back on voice chat once a month, but I still play alone most weeks. What solo game actually made you stop feeling weird about it?
