Just realized the guy who taught me Catan was playing the whole game wrong on purpose
I play board games every Friday at a cafe in Austin with about 8 regulars and one guy, Dave, always wins at Catan. Last week I watched him trade 2 ore for 1 sheep with a new player and then immediately build a city, which made no sense until I realized he had been feeding that same new player bad advice all night. Turns out Dave tells every new person the same thing: that the robber is "random" and that you shouldn't block the leader because it's rude. He's been doing this for 6 months and nobody caught it because we all just assumed he was being nice. Is this just how it goes at your tables, or do you actually call out the guy who wins by teaching wrong rules?
