Just realized I was torquing tube plugs by feel for 3 years and it cost me
For my first 3 years on the job I snugged every tube plug down by hand feel, figured if it felt tight it was tight. Then a guy on my crew at a plant in Gary handed me a torque wrench set to 95 ft lbs and showed me I was getting maybe 60 on half of them, which is why we kept chasing weeps on the same bundle. How are you all deciding when a plug is actually seated, do you go by spec every time or is there a feel thing I'm missing?
