Rant: A fitter in Gary told me my root gap was garbage and I've been running pass 1 wrong for 9 years
He said my gap was wide enough to throw a cat through and that's why my penetration was trash on 2 inch schedule 80. I tightened it up to 1/16 and my tie-ins finally pass x-ray without a fight. Anybody else get chewed out by an old hand and hate that they were right?

Old hands are annoying like that, they just look at your joint and know. Nine years of bad habits gets fixed in one afternoon and you feel dumb for not catching it sooner. Tight root gap on heavy wall is just how it is, the man was right.
