Update: I was wrong about skipping ultrasonic testing on old seams

I used to think that if a boiler passed visual and hydro tests, doing ultrasonic testing was just extra work for no reason. Then last year, I had a job where everything looked good on the surface, but the boiler failed after a few weeks of use. We found out there were tiny cracks hidden inside the welds that only UT could spot. It caused a big leak and shut down the whole plant for days. Now I always push for UT on any seam that's been in service for a while, even if it seems fine. It saves a lot of trouble and keeps everyone safe. I learned the hard way that cutting corners here is not worth it. So please, take the time to do the full check.

Funny how the easy jobs are the ones that bite you. That extra step feels like a waste until it's not. Seen guys get too comfortable with a routine and miss the slow failures. Those hidden cracks don't care about your schedule or your budget. Pays to remember the tools exist for a reason, even when you're in a hurry.

Oh man, all the time. I figured I knew the plot well enough from the trailers and just went for the main event. Big mistake. The whole third act made zero sense because I missed a key character moment they only showed in the RT. I was just sitting there confused while everyone else was freaking out. Never making that assumption again.
