Vent: old timer at the Gary, Indiana shop told me my tube rolling was backwards
About 15 years back I was helping retube a small firetube boiler at a mill in Gary, Indiana, and this old guy named Sal watched me roll a tube for maybe 10 seconds before he stopped me. He said the roller was walking the tube instead of expanding it even, and he had me feel the difference with my hand on the tube sheet. Spent the next hour redoing 6 tubes his way, and I still check my roll pattern on every job because of him. Anyone else get taught tube rolling by feel instead of a torque spec, or was that just a Sal thing?
