Showerthought: My neon green and purple flyer got 3x the calls but I almost lost the client over it
Two weeks ago I made a flyer for a garage sale using neon green text on a purple background. It looked like a 90s birthday party threw up. I almost threw it out but my roommate said it popped. That flyer brought in 40 people by 9am, way more than the plain white ones I usually make. But then the neighbor who hired me for a paid design gig saw it and said it hurt her eyes. She almost dropped me. I had to redo her logo in softer colors the next day. So the clash worked for a garage sale but almost cost me $200. Has anyone else had a bold combo backfire after it crushed somewhere else?
Man, is that really a backfire? Sounds like it did exactly what it was supposed to. The garage sale flyer got people in the door, the logo gig needed a softer look, so you switched it up. That's just reading the room, not a fail.
Honestly if you'd put neon green on her logo she might've had a point, but you didn't. You made two different things for two different crowds. That's the job.
