Picked the hardcover set for our club, now 4 members are mad about it
Our book club had a vote last week between the $22 paperback bundle or the $45 hardcover edition of this new literary fiction pick. I pushed for hardcovers because the paperbacks had tiny print and I figured we'd keep them on shelves longer. Big mistake. Two members said the hardcovers are too heavy for their commute and one woman in Portland told me she's dropping out because the spine cracks too easily. The other two who wanted paperbacks are now sulking every time we meet, acting like I personally raised the price. I should have just let everyone pick their own format instead of forcing a uniform vote. Has anyone else had a book club fight over a specific edition and how did you smooth it over?
