Looking back at my old 401k rollover choice from 2018

Heard that, @the_gray! Wasn't there a story about lost forms causing huge delays?

I thought those cheap thermal paste syringes were all the same until a repair last month.

Wow, that's a huge drop. I've seen cheap paste cause a few degrees difference, but twelve is wild. Max631 is right about fresh paste making a big jump, but the quality of the compound definitely kicks in with hotter chips. That generic white stuff can dry out or pump out faster under heat. For a tough job, I'll pay the extra for something known to last.

Just hit 50 dead power supplies from one specific brand in the last year

I used to buy those, but 50 failures is insane.

Honestly, I always thought silk was the most expensive fabric until I saw a price tag for vicuña wool at a trade show in Milan.

Yeah, the legal permit costs are no joke. I looked into it once for a project, and the fees for shearing and export licenses were more than the actual fiber cost. It's a huge chunk of the final price.

I was stripping 12 gauge wire with my linesman's pliers for years until a guy in my union class asked why I didn't just use the strippers on my multi-tool.

Oh man, that's the perfect example of something I see all the time. People get so used to doing things the hard way, they don't even look for the easier tool right in front of them. It happens with software, with kitchen gadgets, everything. We just get stuck in our routines and miss the simple fix.
