Update: the mayor showed up at our book club in Omaha last month to argue about Chapter 7
So our club picked a book set in a small town in Nebraska, and last month in Omaha the actual former mayor of that town walked into the meeting because his niece is in our group. He sat through 40 minutes of us saying the ending was too neat, then he cut in and argued for 20 straight minutes that the ending was real because he lived it. Nancy from our group said the author took the easy way out, and he actually pulled up county records on his phone to prove her wrong. I mean, I still think the book's ending is weak, but hearing him defend it with a date and a name from 1987 made me reread the last chapter twice. Now half our group wants to invite local people to every meeting and the other half says it kills honest arguing. Do you all let outsiders crash debates, or does your club keep it to members only?

Man, I used to say keep it closed, but that mayor story flipped me.
