I tried a different glue mix for my headbands and it actually held up

Mixed a bit of PVA with some wheat paste for a repair on a 1902 encyclopedia set. It set with way more flex than I expected, didn't crack at all. Anyone have a go-to flexible adhesive for old, thick spines?

Had a tube of Gorilla Glue turn into a puddle in my truck last July. Keep that stuff in the shade.
