Dropped $90 on a moisture meter after killing my 4th calathea in Austin
For two years I kept buying calatheas and watching them curl up and die in my apartment in Austin, and I kept blaming the light. Turns out I was watering on a schedule like a chump instead of actually checking the soil. I got a $90 moisture meter from a nursery on South Lamar and it showed me my pots were soaked 3 inches down while the top felt dry, which is the exact opposite of what I assumed. Now I stick that thing in before I even think about the watering can, and the calathea I bought in March has pushed out 5 new leaves. My cheap $12 meter from the hardware store gave me totally different numbers though, so I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed meters disagreeing with each other?
