Lost my 3 year old pothos to root rot after switching to a fancy self watering pot
I moved my big golden pothos into one of those self watering pots back in March because I was traveling more for work and thought it would help. Everything looked fine for about two months, then the leaves started yellowing from the bottom up and dropping off one by one. When I finally pulled it out last week, the roots were brown and mushy and smelled awful, so the pot had basically been drowning it the whole time. I cut away what I could and stuck two small cuttings in water, but the main plant is gone. I keep thinking about how my grandma just used old coffee cans with holes punched in the bottom and her plants lived forever. Has anyone had luck going back to plain terracotta after a self watering disaster?
