My jalapeno plant dropped all its leaves after I moved it to the porch, now what?
I moved my 2 year old jalapeno plant from the windowsill to the back porch about 10 days ago because it was getting too big and the leaves started turning yellow and falling off within 4 days. I panicked and brought it back inside under a grow light but now it's just a bare stem with 2 sad leaves at the top, and I'm not sure if it got sunburned or if the temp swing at night (down to like 45F in Denver) shocked it. Should I cut it back and hope it grows new leaves, or is this thing done for?
Cutting it back is probably the wrong move here since the plant already lost its leaves from stress, and chopping more off just adds one more shock to the pile. A bare stem with a couple leaves at the top can still push out new growth from the nodes if you leave it alone and keep it under the light. That 45F night was likely the real problem, not the sun, so baby it for a few weeks and watch for tiny green bumps before you touch it with shears.
