My old horticulture professor told me to stop watering my pothos on a schedule and I ignored her for a year
Back in 2022 my plant science professor pulled me aside after class and told me to throw out my watering calendar and water my pothos when the top two inches of soil felt dry instead. I nodded, then went home and kept watering every Sunday like I had been doing for two years. About four months later the leaves started coming in small and pale, and one vine near the window just rotted off at the base. I pulled the root ball out and it was brown and mushy in the middle, which meant I had been drowning it slowly for months. I finally switched to the finger test in a terra cotta pot and new leaves came in bigger than my palm within seven weeks. She was right and it cost me a whole vine to admit it. Now I am wondering how many other houseplant rules I follow just because a label or an app told me to. What plant advice did someone give you that you blew off until it was too late?
