Caught myself buttering joints after the mortar set, 4 years in
I was laying a garden wall in Austin last month and realized I'd been smearing mortar on dry joints the whole time, just tidying the look instead of actually bedding the bricks. A passerby who used to lay stone in the 70s pointed at my trowel and asked why I was frosting a cake, that's when the light bulb hit. Anyone else have a habit that took an outsider calling it out to fix?
