Just realized my mortar mix calculator was right about 18% water

I've been eyeballing my water for 12 years, always thought it felt too stiff. Last week I finally weighed it out on a small patio job in Fresno, hit 17.9% and it was like butter to lay. Anyone else trust the numbers over the old timers' 'fist test'?
