Rant: My corner brick detail took 6 hours instead of 2, what a mess

I had this corner column on a house in Oakville where the angles were all off. The drawings said 90 degrees but the actual walls were like 87 and 93. I spent 4 extra hours cutting and recutting bricks to make it look right. My foreman just shrugged and said 'that's old construction for you.' Has anyone else had a simple detail turn into a full day nightmare because the building was out of square?

Took a full Saturday once to fix a corner on a garage where the foundation was poured an inch off. Cut every brick twice and still had a gap you could fit a dime in. Foreman told me to just grout it thick and call it character. Called it done at 7pm with a sore back and a bad attitude about the whole thing.

Buddy of mine spent a whole weekend on a similar mess, chipping out old mortar just to find the foundation was crooked as a dog's hind leg. He tried every trick to hide it, but that gap just laughed at him. Finally he just packed it with colored caulk and told the homeowner the project was "rustic," and they bought it.
