Scaffold brace failed on a 3-story job in Newark, check yours today

Had a brace snap on Tuesday while we were laying the second course, damn thing nearly took out my helper's leg. It was an older 12-foot frame, rusted at the crimp point, and I'd walked past it a dozen times without a second look. We got lucky, but now I'm checking every pin and weld on site before we start, and I'm telling everyone to do the same. Any of you had failure on a brand you trusted, or is it always the worn stuff that bites you?
