Last week I had a job in a two story house in Springfield, all those tight winder stairs with a patterned berber. Usually I'm fighting to keep the pattern lined up on the turns, and I'll lose a whole afternoon to one bad seam. This time I took it real slow, used a fresh blade on every cut, and kept checking my chalk lines from three different angles before I tacked anything down. The homeowner came up halfway through and just watched for a minute, then said 'you make it look easy.' That felt good. Finished the whole staircase and the upstairs hall in two days flat. Anyone else have a go-to trick for keeping patterns straight on tricky stair runs?
