Update: old timer in Buffalo told me to stop soaking my bricks overnight and I finally tried it
Was at a job site in Buffalo a couple weeks back and the mason running the crew asked why my mortar was sliding off the face. I told him I soak the bricks the night before, always have. He laughed and said on these modern extruded bricks you're just trapping water behind the face, and that's why I kept fighting the joint. Tried laying dry the next morning and the mortar grabbed way better, ended up saving about 40 minutes on the wall. Anybody else been soaking out of habit, or is it just certain brick types where it still makes sense?
