Vent: Wasted $300 on a mortar mixer attachment that couldn't handle a single batch of type S
Bought one of those cheap auger-style mixer drills from a big box store last spring and the gearbox melted down after 15 minutes of mixing a stiff batch for a retaining wall in July, has anyone else had better luck with a specific brand under $500?

Honestly I see it a bit different. "Couldn't handle a single batch" sounds more like you grabbed a drill that was way too light for the job, not that mortar mixers are all junk. I've run a cheap Husky brand one for two summers now mixing stone veneer mud and it's still going fine.

Man that's rough, I feel your pain on wasting that kind of money... it stings worse when you had a specific job in mind and the tool just let you down. Nothing worse than being halfway through a retaining wall and having to stop to deal with a melted gearbox. Hope your next one holds up way better.
