My telescope mount got knocked over by a squirrel last month in my backyard in Ohio

I had the whole setup out at 2 AM trying to get a clean shot of the Andromeda galaxy, and a fat gray squirrel ran right up the tripod leg and sent my 8-inch Dobsonian crashing into the bird bath, which cost me $150 in collimation tools and three clear nights to fix - has anyone else had wildlife ruin their astronomy photos?

Sandpaper storage was a nightmare until I tried the file folder trick

I got tired of digging through a box of loose sandpaper every time I needed a specific grit. Papers would get torn, folded, or mixed up with used ones. Tried stacking them in a drawer but that was just as bad. Then I picked up a cheap hanging file folder box from the office supply store. I labeled each folder by grit from 80 to 2000 and slid them in. Now I grab the whole folder when I'm working on a panel and nothing gets lost or damaged. Has anyone else found a weird storage hack that actually works for their shop?

Spent $60 on a dark mode testing tool and it caught 14 contrast issues I missed

I design mostly on a nice calibrated monitor but never thought about how my dark themes look on cheap laptop screens or phones with auto brightness. Last week I bought a subscription to a contrast analyzer that simulates different screen types and lighting conditions. Found issues in all three of my recent projects. Has anyone else used one of these tools or do you just rely on your own eyes and design software?

Pro tip: The old way to set a threaded headset is still the best way

I keep seeing newer mechanics just crank down the top cap until the play is gone, which puts way too much preload on the bearings. The right way is to tighten it just enough to remove the wobble, then back it off a quarter turn before tightening the stem bolts. I learned this from a shop owner in Portland about fifteen years ago, and it's saved countless headsets from early wear. It's a tiny adjustment that makes a huge difference in how long the parts last. Has anyone else noticed this becoming a lost skill?

Just realized I've been holding my clippers wrong for three years

I was watching a video from a barber in Miami, and he kept his thumb on the side of the clipper body, not the back. I mean, I've always gripped it like a hammer. Tried his way on a skin fade yesterday and the control was way smoother, less strain on my wrist. Has anyone else had a basic grip technique they had to unlearn?

A client's comment about hoof balance made me rethink my whole approach

I was working on a big warmblood last month, a regular client. I thought I had his feet looking good and level. His owner, who's been around horses for years but isn't a farrier, watched me finish up and just said, 'His right shoulder looks lower when he walks now.' I brushed it off at first, but I watched the horse walk away and, sure enough, there was a slight dip. I went back and checked my work. I'd been so focused on the foot itself, making the angles perfect on the stand, that I hadn't fully accounted for how his whole leg moved. I spent an extra twenty minutes with him, rasping a bit more off the medial side of that right front. The change was tiny, maybe two millimeters, but it changed his whole stride. Now I make a point to watch every horse take at least ten steps before I even pick up a tool. Has anyone else had a simple observation from a client totally shift a small part of your process?

I used to think a cold chisel was the only way to cut stock until I saw a guy in Maine do it with a hot cut

I was trying to split a 1-inch bar for a gate hinge and my arm was dead after ten minutes. This old timer at a demo heated the bar to a bright orange, laid it on the hardy hole, and popped it with one hammer hit. He said, 'You're fighting the metal, let the heat do the work.' I tried it in my own shop the next day and it saved me so much time. Anyone else switch to hot cutting for thick stock?

Saw a new park sign in my town that's really hard to read

They put up a new welcome sign at Riverside Park last week. The background is a dark forest green and the text is a medium gray. I was about 20 feet away and honestly couldn't make out the park rules at all. My friend with me said the same thing. It's a real shame because the old sign was black text on a beige background and was fine. Has anyone else run into public signs with bad contrast like this? What's the best way to give feedback to the town about it?

Why does nobody talk about the great board game storage divide?

I used to keep everything in the original boxes, but after my copy of Gloomhaven fell apart last spring, I switched to using a big plastic bin system. Now I can find pieces in 30 seconds flat, but my shelf looks like a warehouse. Anyone else feel torn between keeping things pretty and keeping them playable?

Vent: A single stripped screw on a 737's flap track cost us a 14 hour shift yesterday.

The whole crew got held up because some genius used an impact driver on a critical fastener, and now I'm curious if anyone has a go-to method for extracting a stripped 3/8-24 bolt head buried in a tight spot without damaging the surrounding structure.
