Pro tip: cheap canned beans beat my dried ones after a power outage in Reno
Last Tuesday our power went out for 9 hours up in Reno, and the pot of dried pinto beans I had soaking went bad before I could boil them. I lost about $3 of beans plus a whole afternoon of planning, which pushed me to grab two 89 cent cans at the corner store just to get dinner done. Honestly the canned ones tasted fine in my chili, and I did not miss the overnight soak or the 2 hour simmer one bit. I always swore dried beans saved real money, but between the energy use and the waste when plans change, cans won out. What cheap canned stuff did you give up on making from scratch?
