Tried tenderizing deer steaks with a jaccard and ended up with mushy meat that fell apart on the grill

I used it 8 times on a single backstrap thinking it would make it more tender, but it turned into a texture like ground meat and I lost half of it through the grates, has anyone else ruined good venison by overdoing it with a tenderizer tool?

Found out 90% of websites break on mobile because of one CSS property

I was digging through a report from the HTTP Archive last night and saw that 90% of sites with mobile layout bugs had the same problem - they forgot to set 'overflow-x: hidden' on the body. It makes text and nav bars spill off the screen sideways like crazy. Has anyone else noticed this one tiny fix solving most of their responsive headaches?

Tried a push mower after using a riding mower for 5 years in my sloped backyard

My backyard in Nashville has this annoying slope near the fence line where my riding mower kept slipping. Switched to an old push reel mower for just that section last month. It actually cut cleaner and I didn't have to worry about tipping over. The trade off is it takes me an extra 20 minutes but my grass looks way healthier now. Has anyone else tried mixing mower types for tricky spots?

Hit 100 pure CSS gradients in one piece today

I was working on a sunset scene and accidentally stacked 100 linear gradients on one div to get the sky right. It rendered fine in Chrome but nearly crashed Firefox, so maybe there's a limit we should all keep in mind. Has anyone else pushed too many gradients and seen it break?

Been told AI voice cloning was unethical, but it helped my mom in Pittsburgh

My mom has MS and lost her ability to speak clearly last year. A developer friend used a small sample of her old voicemails to create an AI voice for her tablet. Critics say this tech is creepy or fake, but for our family it gave her back her personality. Has anyone else found a human use for AI that people usually complain about?

Last Tuesday was the worst day I've had on the job in 5 years

I had three calls back to back and every single one went sideways. First one was a dishwasher that wouldn't drain, turns out the previous guy had shoved a bottle cap down the drain line. Then a fridge ice maker that was dead because the owner plugged it into a GFCI outlet that kept tripping. The worst was a dryer that smelled like burning plastic, found a sock melted onto the heating element. Three hours of driving between calls too, all on the north side of town. I charged less than half my normal rate for the dryer job because I felt bad for the lady, her kid had been saving for months to buy that thing. Anyone else have a day where nothing goes right and you start wondering if you picked the wrong trade?

PSA: Lost 8 hours and $150 on a font I didn't actually need

I spent forever looking for the perfect typeface for a client project last month. Ended up buying a $150 commercial license for this fancy display font. Turns out the client never even used it in the final design, they just wanted Arial. I wasted a whole day downloading and testing fonts that I could have saved by asking one simple question upfront. Has anyone else spent money on assets that never made it into the final product?

The week I replaced a timing chain on a 2003 Dodge Ram and everything actually went right

Back in 2018 I had this Dodge Ram 5.7 Hemi come in with a rattling timing chain. I figured it would be a two day nightmare with broken bolts and fighting the oil pan gasket. But somehow every bolt came out clean, the timing marks lined up on the first try, and I had it buttoned up in about 6 hours. That never happens to me, you know? Has anyone else had a job that just clicked perfectly for no good reason?

Hit 500 unique CSS grid layouts in my personal library last night

I was just cleaning up old project files around midnight and decided to count them all. Turned out I had 512 different grid layouts I'd saved from the last 4 years of tinkering. That number surprised me because I remember starting out with maybe 10 basic templates back in 2020. Most of them are just experiments with auto-fill and minmax that I never even used on a real site. Has anyone else accidentally built up a huge stash of grid patterns they haven't touched in years?

Our book club debate about character deaths got way too heated last Tuesday

Three of us nearly stopped talking after someone argued that a minor character's death was 'lazy writing' and the author didn't earn it... it just felt personal all of a sudden. The person who wrote the book is actually in our club, so things got awkward real fast. How do you guys handle it when a debate turns into something that feels like an attack on someone's taste?

Fusion vs ratchet crimpers for RG6 - what did you pick?

Nah man, I’ve used plain ratchet crimpers on all sorts of cables and never had an issue with just the fittings. Usually it’s the crimper not matching the die size right, or the cable being a weird gauge.

Am I the only one who thinks climbing spikes on live trees is lazy? I've got a trick that changed my mind.

That's pretty much what we ran into with a big old live oak a few years back. Had to use spikes on one section because the branch structure made it impossible to set a line safely from the ground, and the deadwood was getting dangerous. Felt wrong doing it, but sometimes you have to pick between looking like a purist and getting the job done right. Like your buddy in Tucson said, the tree didn't seem to mind at all, and it's still putting out new growth every spring. Might not be the textbook method, but it got the job done without harming anything.
