I counted 14 popups on one hotel booking site before I gave up and called the front desk
I was trying to book a room in Boise for a wedding last month and the site threw a newsletter signup, a chat bubble, a cookie banner, and 11 other things at me before I could even see the prices. I finally gave up after the 14th popup shoved my dates off the screen and just called the hotel directly, and the guy answered in like 20 seconds. Why do sites hide the one thing I came there to do behind so much stuff?
14 popups is a new record. I counted 9 on a booking site for a wedding in Tucson last spring, and one of them was a fake "someone just booked this room!" thing that popped up every 30 seconds. The worst part is half of them follow you down the page when you scroll, like they know you're trying to escape. The hotel front desk guy answering in 20 seconds really says it all.
