Pro tip: I was cooking rice wrong for like 10 years
So I'm 35 and I've been making rice since college. Just last week my neighbor saw me rinsing my rice in a colander and she was like what are you doing. Apperently you're supposed to soak it first and then rinse it 3 or 4 times until the water runs clear. I always just dumped it in the pot straight from the bag. Tried her way with a $2 bag of jasmine rice from Aldi and it came out way fluffier and not sticky at all. Saved me from eating ruined rice for dinner. Anyone else have a basic cooking thing they just never learned?

Marched through 15 years of dry, sad rice thinking I was a hotshot in the kitchen. My great aunt finally caught me dumping Uncle Ben's straight into the pot and laughed so hard she almost choked on her sweet tea. Soaked and rinsed my last batch and honestly felt like I'd discovered fire for the first time. Might have to call my mom and apologize for all those years of her politely eating my crunchy rice at family dinners.

Oh honey, I did the EXACT same thing for way too long. @michaelcoleman, that crunch is a dead giveaway. You need to rinse until the water runs clear, then soak for 30 minutes. It's a game changer. Also, if you're using a pot, try the finger trick - put your index finger on top of the rice and add water up to your first knuckle. That ratio is everything. Your mom will forgive you once you bring her a fluffy batch.
