Tried to feed 5 people on $20 at the grocery store in Boise and the checkout screen said $31
I walked into the WinCo on Fairview with a $20 bill and a plan: two packs of chicken thighs, a bag of rice, frozen veggies, and a jar of salsa. I had it all worked out on my phone, $19.40 with tax. Got to the register and the chicken rang up $3 more per pack than the shelf tag, so I stood there doing math while the guy behind me sighed. I put the salsa back and swapped the chicken for a whole bird that was marked down, which brought it to $24.50 and I just ate the overage. Anyone got a go to meal that actually feeds five for under $25 around here, or am I dreaming?
Shelf tag prices being wrong at WinCo is actually pretty common and you can get the money back if you catch it. Their policy is if the shelf tag says less than what it rings up, they have to give you the lower price, and some stores even give you the item free up to a certain amount. The catch is you have to say something right at the register, not after you get home and look at the receipt. Standing there doing math is annoying but that is the moment to flag it for the cashier, because they can call someone over to check the tag. I know it feels like a hassle when there is a line but that $6 you got overcharged is real money when you are feeding five people on $20. Next time just tell the cashier the tag said a different price and let them deal with it.
