Used to do one big $120 run each Sunday, now I shop 4 times a week for $30 each
I used to treat grocery shopping like a military operation. One big trip every Sunday, $120 at the same store, and whatever I bought was what I ate until it ran out or went bad. Then about 8 months ago my fridge died and I couldn't afford a new one right away, so I was stuck buying small amounts every couple days from the corner market near my apartment in Cleveland. It was annoying at first but I noticed I stopped throwing out half a bag of spinach every single week, and my actual food waste dropped from probably $40 a month to almost nothing. Now I go 4 times a week and spend around $30 each time, which sounds like more work but it lets me grab whatever meat is marked down that day and build meals around it instead of planning a whole week that never survives contact with reality. My wife thinks I'm crazy for going so often and says the gas isn't worth it, but I'm saving close to $60 a month and eating better stuff. So which side are you on, one big planned trip or a bunch of small ones when you see a deal?
