Telling a taxi driver my plans was a BAD idea for my wallet

I was in a taxi in Mexico City and the driver was REALLY friendly. I told him ALL about my hotel and when I was leaving town. Later that day, someone tried to break into my room. I think the driver told someone. Now I only give VAGUE answers to questions. It saves MONEY and stress. Please be CAREFUL who you talk to.

Wait, someone actually tried to break into your room later that same day? That's terrifying, it makes the connection way too direct. Giving a fake flight time is such a smart tweak to the vague answer strategy, adds another layer.

That's a tough lesson to learn the hard way. Sticking to vague answers is the smart move, like saying "downtown" instead of your hotel's name. I've even started giving totally wrong but believable answers, like a fake flight time a day later than my real one. Always check in at the hotel desk without saying your room number out loud, too. It feels a bit paranoid, but it really does cut down on risk.

This isn't just for hotels. It's everywhere now, like dodging questions about your schedule or where you live.
