Tried to float a modal with z-index 99999 and it still hid behind a sticky header

And right there with you, had almost the exact same thing happen with a login modal last month. Kept cranking that z-index up to like 999999 thinking I was being clever. Turns out the sticky header had a transform: translateZ(0) on it from some bootstrap thing, and that created its own stacking context. My face just dropped when I finally spotted it in dev tools. I swear half my debugging time is just me fighting with stacking contexts I didn't even know existed. It's always something small and dumb like that.

Serious question about scheduling subs too tight together

Fighting over the same wall cavity" sounds like a really expensive version of a reality show I'd actually watch, lol. Maybe just give them their own separate playdates next time.

Steered a site walkthrough last week that actually stayed on schedule

Oh man, "unrelated plumbing issues" is SO real. That phrase hit different for me because my friend Jenna tried this exact thing last year on a community center renovation she was running. She thought just sending out a group text with the timeline would be enough but nope, people were constantly going off on tangents about their own stuff. She ended up doing what you did, @schmidt.blake, but with a big printed board she kept on an easel the whole time. She said it changed everything because she could literally tap the paper and be like "we're here, not there" without having to argue with anyone. It's wild how having something physical in the room just makes people shut up and pay attention better than a phone ever will.

Tried a new way to quench my last batch of knives and the difference is huge

Holy cow, finding out the game has cheat codes? @noraj79 you gotta hear this guy talk about how he used vegetable oil for years. I can't believe you didn't burn your whole shop down.

Talked to an old timer at a hammer-in last weekend who said he quenches in canola oil at exactly 130 degrees and I've been just guessing temps for 4 years like a fool.

Man, I feel your pain. I went four years just dipping blades in whatever temperature the oil happened to be that day, usually straight out of the garage in winter which was probably 50 degrees. Swapped to heating it up on a hot plate and actually checking with a thermometer and it was night and day difference, stopped getting those weird soft spots near the edge. I was honestly embarrassed how much better my results got just from that one simple change.
