A grocery clerk in Dayton talked me out of my $200 a week takeout habit
Ngl I used to drop about $200 a week on DoorDash because I swore cooking at home was too slow after work. Last Tuesday this older cashier at a Kroger in Dayton rang up my sad little basket of frozen dinners and asked if I had ever tried batch cooking on Sundays. She said she feeds her family of four on $90 a week by cooking two big pots of stuff on Sunday and portioning it out. I did the math on the back of my receipt right there and felt sick. Anyone got a favorite cheap Sunday batch meal that actually tastes good on day four?
$200 a week is a lot but batch cooking sounds great until you actually live it. Day four rice tastes like cardboard and that big pot of chili starts looking real sad by Wednesday. Plus Sundays are supposed to be for resting, not standing over a stove for four hours. That cashier feeds four on $90 but I bet her family is sick of soup by day three too. Sometimes the takeout money buys you sanity, not just food.
