Question about my $38 grocery week, I think the cash envelope thing is overrated
Everyone says cash envelopes saved their budget but I tried it for 6 weeks and honestly I just ended up making extra trips to the ATM on my lunch break, which cost me gas money. Last week I switched back to my debit card and tracking every purchase in a plain notebook, and I spent $38 on groceries for 4 days at the Aldi on Franklin Ave, which is $12 less than my cash weeks. I get why people like the envelope system but for me the notebook is simpler and I don't lose receipts. Has anyone else bailed on cash envelopes and gone back to a card plus a written log?
