The 6pm grocery run that exposed my whole meal planning flaw

I used to plan dinners by what sounded good, then shop every 2 days. Last month I added up the receipts, $240 a week just for my household. Then I noticed my neighbor's cart, she had a clipboard with a grid of days and meals, and it hit me that I'd been planning meals backwards, starting with cravings instead of what's on sale. So I switched to checking the store flyer Monday night, then building the week around those proteins, and my last grocery bill came to $168. Has anyone else had that moment where you realize your routine was the real budget leak?
