Drywall mud on wood was a crispy disaster

I mixed up the buckets in my garage LAST week. The shelf fell apart when I tried to put a book on it. SO much for my weekend project.

You mixed them up a week ago and it only just fell apart? That's wild. It held together long enough for you to put the shelf up and walk away. I would've thought the weight of the wood itself would've cracked it overnight. Waiting a whole week for a book to do it in is just adding insult to injury.

Yeah, that "waiting a whole week for a book to do it in" part is what gets me. It's like the shelf wanted to lull you into a false sense of security first. I've had that happen with other projects, where it seems totally fine until you add one last little thing and it all gives up. Makes you just stare at the mess for a minute. Stuff always waits to fall apart at the most annoying time possible.

Tried the rubbery shelf liner from the hardware store. Cut strips to fit under each bracket. That extra grip stopped the wobble completely. Been solid for two years now.
