Spent $250 on a premium stud finder and it still lied to me

I picked up a fancy Franklin Sensors stud finder last month for my basement remodel in Denver. It showed a stud every 8 inches on my wall, which sounded way off. Turns out it was picking up old drywall nails from a previous finish job. Has anyone else dealt with false readings from high-end stud finders, or is my old plaster just messing with the sensors?

wait so it literally thought your thumb was a pipe? @garcia.miles was that the cheap one where the sensor just goes off if anything touches it or what brand was it? because i've seen those ultra budget models that just pulse red and call it a day. i'm trying to picture how hard you had to press down for it to confuse skin for metal piping.
