The day I stopped calculating baseboard height with a tape measure
I spent 12 years installing trim and I always measured each piece against the wall, marking every stud and scribbling numbers on scraps. Last month a carpenter I hired for a side job watched me do an entire living room that way and just said, "Why not snap a laser line and set your saw stop once?" I felt like an idiot because it took less than 2 hours for all 40 feet of baseboard, versus my usual 5 hour afternoon. The trick is you still check for high spots in the floor with a level, but you stop second guessing every single cut. Now I set up the laser, adjust for the worst dip, and every joint lands tight without those tiny gaps I used to shim. Has anyone else had a moment where a younger or less experienced worker showed you a basic shortcut that changed your whole process for good?
