TIL my bullet journal doesn't need a future log

Three years ago in my first journal, I spent a whole afternoon drawing a 12-month future log that I never checked. Last month, I tried again with a simpler 3-month version, but I still just used my phone calendar for appointments. Has anyone else ditched the future log and found a better system?

Actually, the future log isn't really for appointments. That's what a phone calendar is for. It's better for bigger picture stuff you don't want to forget, like planning a vacation next summer or noting when your car registration is due. I use mine for things like "start looking for new apartment in May" or "cousin's wedding in October." It's a different tool.

Hugo's point about the future log being for bigger picture stuff is good, but what if you're just not a big picture planner? I use mine to track media, not tasks. I'll jot down "new album from favorite band drops in August" or "that TV show's final season starts in April." It's less about planning my life and more about having a fun, paper-based list of upcoming things I'm excited for. It turns the future log from a chore into something I actually want to open.
