Watch out for those pre-tenderized cube steaks from big box stores

I bought a case from a national wholesaler last month and after cutting into three of them I found bits of bone and gristle that the blade had just mashed right into the meat, so has anyone else noticed this junk sneaking into their deliveries?

I actually read a pretty eye-opening report from a consumer group a few months back about this EXACT issue. They tested cube steaks from a bunch of different stores and found that a lot of them had hidden gristle and bone fragments from the tenderizing process. It's not just your wholesaler, it seems like a widespread problem. The machine basically just smashes everything together, so you can't even see the junk until you bite into it. Makes you wonder what else is getting hidden in there.
