Can we talk about mushy laptop keys after my coffee spill at work
Last Thursday I knocked over a full mug of coffee right onto my work laptop and about 15 keys turned into wet sponges within seconds. I flipped it upside down and let it sit for two days, but now the space bar and the E key feel like pressing into wet bread, with almost no click at all. Here is where I keep going back and forth: half of my coworkers say a cheap external keyboard is the smarter fix since the built in one will never feel right again, and the other half swear a full teardown and a cleaning gets the snap back to about 90 percent. I priced out a replacement keyboard deck at $42 and a decent USB keyboard at $35, so the money is basically a wash. The thing is I actually like the old travel and feel of these keys, and a new external one is a totally different shape that my fingers would have to relearn. I pulled three keycaps off last night and the switches underneath look fine, just sticky. Has anyone brought a laptop keyboard back from a spill, and did the click ever actually come back or did you just live with the mush?
