I finally fixed my mouse wheel jumping by cleaning one tiny part with a $2 can of air
So my mouse wheel has been driving me nuts for about 4 months. I'd scroll down a page and it would randomly jump up a few lines, or I'd click the middle button and nothing would happen. I figured the encoder was shot and I was about to drop $70 on a new mouse. Before I did that, I popped the shell off and looked at the wheel mechanism. There was a tiny optical sensor right next to the wheel with a little slotted disc, and the slots were packed with dust and skin flakes. One blast of compressed air from a $2 can I had in my desk drawer fixed the whole thing in like 10 seconds. It's been 3 weeks now and zero jumps. I kind of can't believe I almost spent real money on a new mouse over some dust. Has anyone else had a scroll wheel act up and it turned out to be the sensor instead of the encoder?
