Rant: I switched from a mechanical keyboard to a membrane one at work and the quiet clicks are honestly killing me
For 3 years I typed on a board with blue switches at my desk in Columbus and loved every loud clack. Then my office moved me to a shared floor last fall and a coworker two desks over said my typing sounded like popcorn popping all day, so I swapped to a cheap membrane board to be nice. Now every key press is this mushy thud with zero feedback and I keep missing words because I can't feel when the key actually fires. I honestly thought sound was just a bonus, but it turns out the click was telling my fingers when to move on, and without it my speed dropped from 92 words a minute to like 70. I tried a silent red switch board for 2 weeks and it was smoother but still too quiet, just a soft little tick that does nothing for me. At this point I'm ready to say feedback matters way more than the noise complaint, and I might just bring the blues back and apologize to everyone. Has anyone found a switch that gives a real crisp click but stays quiet enough for an open office?
