PSA: Saw a 100 year old built-in at the Decatur courthouse and it made me rethink my drawer bottoms
I was killing time in the old Decatur courthouse lobby on Tuesday waiting on a permit and got a good look at the original clerk counter built around 1920. The drawer bottoms were solid 3/8 poplar with the grain running side to side and no glue at all, just nailed, and not one of them sagged after a century. I've been running my grain front to back on 1/4 ply for 15 years because that's how the shop did it. Has anyone messed with solid bottoms in a wider drawer, and did it move on you?
