Saw a guy at the Woodcraft in Nashville joint a 6 foot walnut board with no glue and no clamps
Stopped in the Woodcraft off Old Hickory Blvd on Saturday to grab some sandpaper and there was a guy doing a demo at the back bench. He fitted two boards together with nothing but a hand plane and a shooting board, running the plane on the end grain until the gap closed up tight enough that you could hold one board up by the other. Took him maybe 90 seconds and he said he does it this way on anything under 8 inches wide before he even thinks about glue. I tried it on scrap when I got home and my first three tries had a visible gap you could see daylight through. Anybody here use a shooting board for panel glue ups instead of a jointer, or am I about to go down a rabbit hole for no reason?
