Walked through the hangar at a small airport in Boise and saw something that made me shake my head

Walking past a fueling dock outside Reno a few years back, I saw a guy using a pair of vice grips to tighten a spark plug wire connection. I used to be one of those people who thought "if it fits, it works" but watching that wire get all chewed up and the boot start to crack made me realize I was wrong. @riley595 is right, the mindset is the same everywhere. That kind of shortcut might save you five minutes on the ground but it can cost you everything in the air. It just takes one bad day to turn a "close enough" part into a real problem.

Had a client bring in a desktop that smelled like a fish market

Does anyone else wonder what kind of person just leaves dentures in a CD drive? Like that's not something you forget by accident. You gotta deliberately put them in there and walk away. Probably someone trying to get back at the library for some fine or something. Makes you think about all the weird passive aggressive stuff people do in public spaces.

My $12 thrift store lamp taught me more about contrast than any monitor calibration

Old school incandescent bulbs are underrated for this. My grandpa had a similar setup in his workshop, an old desk lamp with a 40 watt bulb right over his blueprints. That warm glow makes a huge difference for older eyes, especially with the blue light from screens. I swapped my LED desk lamp for a halogen bulb and noticed way less eye strain at night. It's crazy how something simple like changing the light source can fix problems that expensive software tries to patch. Not everything needs a tech solution, sometimes you just need better light.

Took me 3 hours to dial in my offset smoker this morning

Wait, you're saying you actually TRIED smaller splits after reading that somewhere and it didn't help at ALL? That's WILD to me. I've been using smaller splits for YEARS now and it's like night and day on my cheap offset. The fire just purrs along instead of that crazy surging you get with big logs. What size are you cutting them down to? I'm honestly shocked that didn't fix your temp swings, because for me it was the single biggest improvement I ever made. Maybe your airflow issue is way worse than I thought, like the firebox opening is just too small period.

Last week I tried painting my kitchen cabinets without sanding them first

The deglosser trick can work but you really gotta clean those cabinets good first. Any grease or grime left behind will mess up the bond no matter what primer you use. Three years is a decent test though so your neighbor might be onto something. Just keep an eye on the edges near the sink and stove where moisture and heat hit hardest. If it holds up there you're probably golden.
