Blew $180 on a Klein VDV Scout tester and my cheap $20 tone generator did the job better
I need to vent about this one. About 3 months ago I dropped $180 on a Klein VDV Scout Pro 3 because the reviews made it sound like I could not survive without it, and I used it on maybe 4 jobs before it started giving me flaky readings on cat6 runs. Meanwhile my old $20 tone and probe from the supply house has never once lied to me on a single run. Last Tuesday I was at a house in Garland and the Klein said a line was dead, so I spent 40 minutes pulling a new run through a wall, only to find out the run was fine and the tester was the problem. I returned it and put that $180 toward a better drill instead. Has anyone else had a tester just start lying to them out of nowhere?
Watched a guy on YouTube run into the same thing with his Scout, said the readings got worse the longer the battery sat in it. Something about the contacts getting dirty or the firmware going wonky, I can't remember which. Gotta trust the cheap beeper that just works every time.
