Rural route in Ohio taught me to always carry a spare 500ft spool
Last month on a job outside Toledo, the home run to the barn needed 470 feet and I only had a 300fter in the truck. Had to splice two runs with a weatherproof box in the middle of a horse pasture, which took an extra hour and a half. Does anyone else stock bulk spools in the van just for those long rural drops, or is that overkill?

Keep a 500 footer in the truck year round now. It sits on a reel in the back and weighs like 60 pounds but it pays for itself the first time you don't have to make a second trip. Also grab a few extra waterproof splice kits while you're at it, cause that horse pasture trick only works if the box is rated for direct bury.
