Spent an hour hunting a signal drop that was a loose coax fitting at the pole

Last Tuesday I had a job in Bakersfield where the customer kept losing internet every time it rained. I checked every fitting in the house, swapped splitters, even ran a new drop from the ground block. After 90 minutes of head scratching I finally climbed the pole and found the connector at the tap was barely hand tight. Anyone else ever waste that much time on something so simple?

You ever have that one buddy who swears he's the best tech in the crew? My friend Dave pulled up to a service call where the customer hadn't had cable for two weeks. He spent 45 minutes inside checking all their wiring, even replaced a barrel connector that looked a little rusty. Finally went outside to the tap and the whole drop was just laying on the ground, the coupling nut had backed off completely. The customer said a squirrel had been chewing on the line last week, guess it shook it loose.

Squirrels (little troublemakers) probably cause more cable outages than the whole crew combined. Forty five minutes inside when the problem was right outside at the tap, classic Dave move.
