Wasted $150 on a cheap fish tape that snapped on my first real pull

Bought a generic 50-footer off Amazon and it broke halfway through a conduit run at a new apartment complex in Phoenix. Had to borrow a buddy's fiberglass one to finish the job. Anyone else learned this the hard way or am I the only one who cheaped out?

Yeah cheap fish tapes are basically just expensive string.

Why is it that the cheapest ones always end up snapping on the very first pull too? I've had that exact problem more times than I care to count, where the tape just crumbles in your hand when you need it to hold steady. It's frustrating because you think you're saving a few bucks but end up spending twice as much time on the job. They basically give you the illusion of a tool when what you really need is something that can actually take some wear and tear. I feel your pain on this one, it's one of those lessons you only learn after you've been burned a couple times.
